South Eastern Club - October News

The South East Holstein Club, incorporating the Ayrshire club, after a long delay, were finally able to have our AGM where we had a few changes to our committee members, hosted at the Hamlyn’s Willjoy herd, followed by a herd walk.

The Hamlyn family are fairly new members to the club, and the show circuit, having their first calf to qualify for the ABAB 2019 at our last calf show, two years ago. It was a great privilege to have three generations of the Hamlyn family at our AGM to show us around their herd and farm.

The Willjoy herd, of 180 milking cows, averaging 9,000 litres, is currently managed by Richard, Fred and Josh Hamlyn (three working generations of the family), with the help of Josh’s new wife, Charlie Hamlyn and their herdsman Darren. This is clearly very much a team effort with all encouraged to be involved.  Josh is the fifth generation to be hands-on running the family farm, and they have recently opened an on-site pop up butchers using their own beef cattle and home-reared piglets.

The Hamlyn family also run an arable contracting business, doing all their own crops as well as contract work for other farms local in the area.
