Edition 4 - 2023 - Scotland

Scotland’s Holstein Young Breeders were out in force with a record number of entries for their Annual Calf show held at Lawrie and Symington’s Agricultural Centre, Lanark on 17th of September.

With 40 handlers and 60 calves in attendance, it was a tough competition, all looking to take away the top prizes of the day.

The show was judged by very well-known and respected breeder Mrs Izzy Laird from the Blythbridge Herd in West Linton. Kicking off the competition was the showmanship, and after 5 really tough classes of being put through their paces by the judge, the Overall Championship was won by our Intermediate Class winner, Ellis Caldwell, Ladyyard Farm, Reserve went to her brother John Caldwell and Honourable Mention to Alison Lawrie, Myremill Farm.

In the afternoon it was no easier a competition for the calf classes. The standard was outstanding and the entry numbers in each section were high. Overall Calf Championship went to Drointon Jordy Crispy Promis, owned in partnership with Grayridge and Drointon Holsteins. The reserve spot went to Neil Sloan, the Knowe Farm with Annaghmore Lambda Platinum and Honourable Mention to Glenvalley Haniko Rae ET from J McGregor and Son.

In the Red and White section winning the Championship was the Boreland Family, with Mossbog Jordy Brilliance Red and Reserve to Grayridge Addison Siesme Red from David Gray.

The last award of the day was the Premier Exhibitor Trophy which was presented to Kevin and Alison Lawrie, Myremill Farm for the most points gained throughout the days competition.
