Priestland crowned ‘cream of the crop’

The McLean family’s noted Priestland prefix has been crowned ‘cream of the crop’ in Holstein NI’s annual Herds Inspection Competition. Owned by Iain, Joyce, John, Matthew and Ellie McLean, the Bushmills-based Priestland Herd is home to 100 pedigree Holstein cows, which are managed alongside 30 coloured breeds. The herd is currently averaging 11,000 litres at 4.23% butterfat and 3.36% protein, and more than 75% is classified VG or EX.

Holstein NI raises £22,500 to aid three cancer charities

Holstein NI’s 4thannual open day has raised £22,500 for charity. The money has been divided equally between three nominated beneficiaries – Friends of the Cancer Centre; Cancer Fund for Children; and CCRCB (Centre for Cancer Research and Cell Biology at Queen’s University in Belfast).

Members of Holstein NI attended its 20th annual dinner and presentation of awards in Cookstown.Club chairman Jason Booth was delighted to see a good turn-out of members from across the Province and extended a warm welcome to Holstein UK President Peter Waring and his wife Judith, Irish Holstein Friesian Society President Peter Kennelly and his wife Eileen; and Holstein NI’s first President Wilbert Rankin.
