Finalists Announced for 2023 Holstein UK President’s Medal

Three Holstein Young Breeders have excelled during the judging for the Holstein UK President’s Medal. Holstein UK is delighted to announce the finalists as Alison Lawrie (Scotland), Tom Hull (Lancashire) and Will Horsley (Border & Lakeland).

The President's Medal is awarded to an HYB member who has made an outstanding contribution to the breed, Holstein Young Breeders and, in particular, their own Club. The finalists will attend the Semex International Dairy Conference in January where the overall winner will be announced. The ultimate winner of this most coveted and prestigious title will receive an engraved President's Medal from the Holstein UK President and the Sue Cope Memorial Trophy, together with a visit to the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto in November 2024, courtesy of Semex UK.

The entry process began as each HYB Club was asked to nominate one young breeder aged between 18 and 26 years of age. Six young breeders were invited to Rackery Retreat - the home of Holstein UK President, Andrew Jones. Joining Andrew on the judging panel were Mrs Katie Jones (Farmers Guardian Head of Livestock and Editor of Dairy Farmer) and Mr Aran Owen (Regional Manager at Semex UK).

To be considered for the award, entrants were asked to write and submit an essay titled ‘Your Misson: With the end consumer in mind, develop a breeding strategy that keeps milk relevant’.
