Western Holstein Club - December Newsletter

As we write this article, the first COVID vaccines are being administered, such positive news! We look forward to this being rolled out during 2021, so things can slowly but surely get back to normal. Unfortunately, the vaccine will not  have been circulated in time for us to hold our annual Dinner & Dance this year, but as soon as we can, we will be organising a night for us all to get together to celebrate successes of 2020 and bring friends together again. Club members have missed the normal get togethers be it at Stock Judging Competitions, Evening talks or Presentation evenings. Council have kept in touch via Zoom discussing new thoughts and ideas for the coming year.  We hope you enjoy our Facebook Videos of Western Herds. In November, we launched our first HYB Christmas photo competition, entries are arriving as we write this, and we look forward to publishing the results on Social Media and via email once they are in.  Thank you to all HYB members who took part.

Obituary

C.D. (Don) Armstrong - 1936-2020
The Western Club is extremely sad to report the loss of two of its most stalwart members, Don and Jean Armstrong. This wonderful couple and their noted Armsdale Herd were synonymous with all that was best in breeding circles in Cheshire.
Armsdale was often prominent in Herd competitions and a great supporter of club sales both at Crewe and then Beeston. Not only that, but Don was so generous with his time serving for innumerable years on club council and playing his part as Chairman and later President.
He undertook many judging duties, the highlight being at The Royal Highland. Also, he was a much-respected Chief Steward at N W D S for many years and also at the Society 75th Anniversary Show.
A convivial companion, Don, as a young man played cricket and badminton (also golf slightly but not half as well as his wife!) and was a devoted family man. His passing, sad though it was, was made even more devastating for his multitude of friends by the loss of his irrepressible wife
Jean passed away only a few days later following an accident. Jean was an angel in her fabulous care of Don after his stroke some years ago.
