Shropshire's end of 2019

Our annual social evening opened the Winter programme of events which entailed a quiz hosted by Richard Apperley – and won by the youngest team, which included James and Stephanie Doherty, Michael Whittaker and Richard Bostock plus family friend Chris.

A talk by Miss Molly Westwood from Panda Holsteins attracted a keen audience of over 50 members who listened intently as she told her story of how she established a very successful business, while also working full time as a sire analyst for Mastergen.

Our AGM saw 42 members listen to summaries from Chairman Mr Philip Jackson, President Mr Tim Preston, HUK Delegate Mrs Jane Whittaker and HYB Joint Co-ordinator Mrs Jane Arrell.

David Gadd, Carole Jones and Keith Davies were elected on to the full committee and retiring Committee members agreed to be co-opted on to sub-committees arranging major events during 2020.

Following the meeting – and mulled wine with mince pies – members listened to an inspirational presentation from Andrew Jones from Rossett Holsteins based on his farming career and his family’s diversification project –- glamping. The family is now exploring the possibility of developing a wedding venue and continually using public media as a marketing tool – where Andrew and Jennie’s daughters come into their own.

We are busy planning to welcome all Society members to Shropshire on 30th June and 1st July when we are hosting the 2020 HUK Celebration and AGM.

Plans include herd visits to Knowlesmere, Woodmarsh and Brookroad Holsteins with alternative visits including PDM Salads, Equine AI stud at Twemloes, garden centres and also a visit to Shrewsbury with a river cruise and escorted bus tour around this fascinating town. This will all be kicked off with a golf tournament at Hawkstone on 29th June.

We are looking forward very excitedly to the HUK AGM when our own Robert Clare from the renowned Hawksmoor Holsteins will take on the role of President.

Following on from this we will host the 2020 HYB Rally, based around Harper Adams and including the Field2Photo event at Halls Auction Centre in Shrewsbury, plus the stock-judging and results at StycheHolsteins, hosted by the Seaton Family.

So, please put the events here in Shropshire in your diaries and we look forward to hosting you all here in 2020.
