Shropshire Holstein Club - April News

Here we are heading into spring/early Summer with several local and national shows already cancelled, or at best postponed until a later date in the year, and not a lot to report on regarding Club activities. Our AGM was held on the 22nd March via Zoom, with all Club officers standing on until we can all meet up again and hold a full AGM in December 2021.

Winter Top Ten Classic Results

One event we have recently managed to complete is our Winter Top Ten Classic which was judged by Mr Ivan Shepherd from Budworth Holsteins. With 19 herds entered this has involved much planning to maintain social distancing and keep everyone concerned safe. After completing the judging, Ivan commented "The standard put before me was tremendous and I saw great cows in every group. All breeders should be very proud of that. Unfortunately, there can only be one winner in each class and I would like to congratulate everyone who entered.”

The results are as follows:

Group of Ten for the Ternbridge Trophy
1st Pippa and James Tudor - Hallon Holsteins
2nd Seaton Farms - Styche Holsteins
3rd John Lomax and Kelly Woodcock - Chorlton and Atwood
4th Paul Dee and David Bradbury - Brookroad Holsteins
5th D R and A Higgins - Bentleyford Holsteins

Individual Heifer for the John Seaton Memorial Trophy
1st Pippa and James Tudor - Sterndale Silver Midnight Ghost
2nd Seaton Farms - Styche Lambda Patricia
3rd David Rees Farms - Dalebank Allstar Laurie Sheik 2
4th Mark Whitehurst - Folemillfarm Impression Wanda 3
5th John Lomax and Kelly Woodcock - Atwood Fitz Kelly

Individual Cow for the Thistlerose Trophy
1st Seaton Farms - Styche Armour Hilgonda
2nd Paul, Dee and David Bradbury - Brookroad Silver Julianna 145
3rd Pippa and James Tudor - Hallon Fever Akilia
4th B and L Whitfield - Alderbarrow Applicable Tina
5th Andrew Thomas - Upper Severn Dorcy Ruth

We have planned three Club evening presentations, again via Zoom, which included a virtual farm tour of Eric Easom’s farm and business enterprise,on the 29th March, followed by two other presentations from dairy operations nearer to home, which at this time are still in the production stage and eagerly awaited by all members.

Other events include two stock judging evenings planned for early July and mid-August in conjunction with Western Club (at David Rees Farms) and Staffordshire Holstein Club (with John Lomax at Chorlton). Both had been planned for last year, and were obviously postponed, so we look forward to being able to join up again and run these two events.

While we are all looking forward to better and safer times in the Summer the one big event that we are hoping will go ahead is UK Dairy Day on the 15th September at Telford.

Remembering Captain Tom’s words - “Tomorrow will be a good day”.
