Passing of Alan Shufflebotham

We are deeply saddened to hear of the recent passing of Alan Shufflebotham.

Alan of the Avondale herd won the Society's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018 for his life-long dedication and service to the dairy industry. Having worked on numerous dairy farms, he took his first farm tenancy in 1955 which compromised of just 5.5 acres and 4 jerseys. Alan then moved to a tenancy of 172 acres in 1961 before moving on to a 325 acre farm in Worcestershire in 1965 where Alan built up a pedigree herd of 200 jerseys. In 1973, Alan purchased 61 in-calf heifers from Canada and established the pedigree holstein Avondale herd before dispersing his jerseys two years later. It was during this time that Alan joined the Holstein Society and started showing cattle, winning Supreme Champion at both the National Holstein Show and Royal Show. He was also a founder member of the Midland Holstein Breeders Club.

Alan sadly passed on 15th July and his funeral will take place at 2pm on Wednesday 11th August at St. Michael & All Angels Church in Broadway, WR12 7AE and will be followed by a private family burial. Everybody is invited to join the family for refreshments afterwards at Dumbleton Hall, WR11 7TS.
