HYB Australian Exchange Announced

This September, we will once again be hosting a young breeder from Holstein Australia. Tahlia McSwain will be joining us from Boallia Creek, near Busselton, where she runs 400 Holsteins in a 1,500Ha TMR/pasture based enterprise. Tahlia is the current Chair of the Young Dairy Network in Western Australia and she enjoys exhibiting at her local agricultural shows.

Tahlia has been invited to be a leader at the annual WA Youth Handlers Camp, providing the next generation with advice and inspiration for showing cattle. Boallia Creek enter On Farm Challenges, offer cows up for classification and Tahlia has recently donated a scholarship to WA College of Agriculture – Harvey in order to promote the next generation and fund opportunities to be involved in dairy.

From the Exchange, Tahlia hopes to learn everything she possibly can, from how UK dairy enterprises operate and use genetics and technology, to the layouts of production systems, calf rearing advice, HR and staffing. When it comes to showing, Tahlia would like to learn how we break-in stock, tips and tricks for preparing prior to show day and learning how to fit prior to entering the show ring.

Most of all, Tahlia is looking forward to interacting with Holstein breeders and enthusiasts about their cows and what they love.

Tahlia will be with us during September and October so if you are interested in hosting her, please email naomilewis@holstein-uk.org
