The British Friesian judge for this year’s All Breeds All Britain Calf Show will be Andrea Debenham from the Oakalby/Eastpoint herds. The event is organised by Holstein UK and will be held from 6th to 8th October at NAEC, Stoneleigh Park.
Andrea hails from Oaklands Farm near Beccles in Suffolk where she works with the herd of 400 autumn block calving British Friesians with her family. The herd are milked twice daily through a 54 point rotary parlour and are yielding an average of 7,700kg. Prominent families within the herd include the Ruths, Buttercups, Brittos and Sheilas. Alongside her husband, Andrea has invested in a new business to rear heifers for the family farm and they also run a 2,000 free-range egg unit and have a B&B pig finishing unit.
Andrea was previously heavily involved with her Young Farmers Club and took part in both local and national stock judging competitions. Most recently, Andrea judged the Heifer Sweepstake at the South of England Show. For many years, she was a keen member of the Suffolk HYB Club and in her final year, she was placed fourth in the Holstein National Showmanship competition. 2014 was a memorable year for Andrea as she took home the Champion title for both the British Friesian calf and showmanship classes.
