Holstein UK Trustee Elections 2023

Trustee Elections

At the AGM in June 2023, four of our current Holstein UK trustee positions will be up for election. The Board of Trustees have also agreed to introduce a second trustee post in Northern Ireland.

The trustee areas up for election are as follows;

East Midlands

Our current board member, Matthew Winter, is coming to the end of his first term as a Holstein UK trustee. Matthew Winter is eligible to be re-elected and has indicated he would like to stand for re-election, or alternatively a new trustee can be nominated. We now invite nominations for the four-year term 2023-2027.

Far Western

Our current board member, Michael Smale, will be stepping down after his second term as a Holstein UK trustee. We now invite nominations for a new trustee for a first term of four years (2023-2027).

Lancashire

Our current board member, John Hartley, is coming to the end of his first term as a Holstein UK trustee. John Hartley is eligible to be re-elected and has indicated he would like to stand for re-election,  or alternatively a new trustee can be nominated. We now invite nominations for the four-year term 2023-2027.

Northern Ireland

The Holstein UK Board of Trustees have agreed to introduce a second trustee post to the Northern Ireland area. We now invite nominations for a new trustee for a first term of four years (2023-2027).

North Western

Our current board member, Jane Whittaker, is coming to the end of her first term as a Holstein UK trustee. Jane Whittaker is eligible to be re-elected and has indicated that she would like to stand for re-election, or alternatively a new trustee can be nominated. We now invite nominations for the four-year term 2023-2027.


Please note that the duties of a Trustee, as outlined by the Charity Commission, include:

  • Being responsible for the governance of the Society
  • Setting strategy and policy
  • Setting values and standards
  • Reviewing the performance of management
  • Exercising financial control, setting budgets and ensuring proper records and accounts are kept
  • Appointing and removing executive officers
  • Being a member of at least one sub-committee
  • Representing the membership in their designated area
  • Attending the Holstein UK AGM & Celebration, in addition to four two-day meetings at the Holstein UK Head Office as scheduled throughout the year.

Also available to view is a copy of The Charity Commission Guidance document for trustees which may be useful for any potential candidate/s to read prior to agreeing to become a trustee.


The Regions for which there are vacancies consist of the following counties:

East Midlands: Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire, Rutland, Warwickshire

Far Western: Cornwall, Devon, Dorset

Lancashire: Greater Manchester, Lancashire

Northern Ireland: County Antrim, County Armagh, County Down, County Fermanagh, County Londonderry, County Tyrone

North Western: Cheshire, Isle of Man, Merseyside, Shropshire


To submit a nomination please download and complete the Trustee Nomination Form and return to the address below along with all supporting documents no later than 5pm, Friday 27th January 2022. Please note nominations received after this deadline will not be accepted. Please make sure your nominated candidate fits within the guidance rules stated at the bottom of the application form. Please also be aware that the candidate, together with the Proposer and Seconder MUST be resident in the Region for which they are nominated, regardless of any club they may be a member of.
