Lancashire's February News

Our Club would like to congratulate Amelia Hull on gaining third place in the Littlestar Award – and the HYB team who had a calf placed in the top six in every class at ABAB. Twelve-year-old Tom Dennison won his Handler class and Rosie Dennison was Honourable Mention Handler.

Mr Ivan Shepherd has kindly agreed to judge our Winter Herds competitions in the week beginning 10th February. Our ever-popular panel meeting will be at the B W Garstang Country Hotel on 20th February and our Annual Dinner Dance will be at The Wyreside Hall Hotel, Dolphinholme, on Saturday 21st March.

The Club was given a great presentation by our own Helen Eastham, winner of the prestigious President's Medal in January 2018. Helen described her journey through HYB, which she joined as a six-year-old, her love and enjoyment of showing calves and taking part in HYB events. That love culminated in many years’ service as Joint Co-ordinator for the Lancashire HYB, and continued in her chosen career working with disadvantaged children. Helen has recently stepped down as Lancashire HYB co-ordinator.

With her partner Tom, Helen has set up a pedigree dairy herd near Ulverston and she spoke of the many resultant challenges, such as living away from the herd's base as well as coping with everything that goes with setting up a new business and a full-time job.

It was a thought-provoking evening, led by a young lass who will rise to every challenge with a huge smile and much enthusiasm.

The Club is hugely grateful to Helen for all the hard work and dedication she has put in, helping steer the HYB team towards many successes at national events with some individual members going on to successfully represent The National Society in Europe.

Hannah Booth has stepped up to fill Helen’s role, alongside Joint Co-ordinator Richard Lawrence.
