Lancashire Club - Spring News

In February, Club Chairman John Dewhurst introduced Club member and host of the last Premier Herd Winner Open Day, David Wright who gave a presentation to a room full of members on the Berryholme Journey...So Far!

David told us how his grandfather came to purchase the 93-acre farm in 1919, keeping a few of everything as was the way those days, then milking Ayrshire cattle in the 50s. His parents continued the farming journey by turning to milking black-and-whites in the 60s when the Berryholme prefix was registered. The farm is now around 250 acres on extent with half hill land and half at sea level in the Lyth Valley.
Mr Henry Sanderson gave the vote of thanks. Many thanks to sponsors Gro-Agri.

Saturday 5th March saw members donning their glamour wear for the Club’s Dinner Dance at a new venue, The Gibbon Bridge Hotel, Chipping. A great time was enjoyed by all. Many thanks to everyone who donated items for the promise auction and to all the successful bidders. A grand sum was raised to be divided between the Club and our young members’ section.

Young Judges Competitions will be held on Friday 13th May, at Messrs J & A Parkinson & Sons’ Parkgill herd, at Swillbrook Grange, Bartle, PR4 0HD and Friday 20th May at Messrs W A & A Booth’s Feizor herd, at Old Hall, Feizor, LA2 8DF.

A Treasure Tramp will be held on Friday 1st July. It is usually a much-enjoyed fun family evening, walking whilst searching for ‘treasure’ ending back at the farm for supper. This year it will be kindly hosted by Messrs J C Mason of Lawrence House in the scenic area of Levens.
