HYB Bursary

Following the loss of the Holstein UK CEO Sue Cope in 2022, the Board of Trustees have launched a bursary in her memory. Having successfully competed in YMA herself for a number of years, and a previous winner of the President’s Medal Award, Sue was a great supporter of the next generation and one of her earliest roles in the company was as National YMA Coordinator.

The bursary is to support Holstein Young Breeders who have an interest in furthering their skillset within the dairy industry. The money provided could be used towards a training course, management programme or to gain a wider knowledge of international farming practices. The bursary is open to all Holstein Young Breeders aged between 18 and 26 on the 1st January of the corresponding year and they must be a current resident within the UK. The young breeder must be interested in taking part in a study course, or similar, related to the dairy industry and applicants will be assessed on merit.

The Bursary

One bursary of up to £1,500 will be awarded on an annual basis and a Holstein Young Breeder is only eligible to apply once per year and must state how they would spend the money in their application (e.g. conference place, international study trip, transport costs, additional certificates, i.e. foot trimming course).

Entry Requirements

To apply for the bursary, applicants must specify how they intend to use the bursary and submit an entry outlining ‘Why I want to be part of the British dairy industry’. Entries can be submitted as either a 500 word written essay, or a two minute video. Entries must be sent to naomilewis@holstein-uk.org by Friday 26th April, 2024 and the applications will be reviewed by the Holstein UK Board of Trustees.
