Edition 2 - 2025 - East Midlands

Just before Christmas the Young Members and parents had a get together over a fish and chip supper to round the year off at the Crown Inn, at Gilmorton. A quiet few months followed and we are now excited to get the season going again.
Over the last few months, we have also hosted our Club Quiz and our Annual AGM as well as our Linear and Stock Judging Evenings held at Bassingthorpe Holsteins, Ashtop Holsteins and Shuttlewoods Holsteins.
Our Club Calf Show will be held on  Sunday 24th August at Cricket Field Farm , Widmerpool Road, Wysall, Notts, NG12 5QW by kind permission of the Onion family.
We will also be hosting a Club Showmanship Training Day with the details of this to be confirmed.
We were very sorry to hear of the passing of Peter Dixon Smith on the 4th March at the age of 92. Peter was a prominent member of our club before he sold his Lyons herd and retired in 2003. He was a humble man and would always make conversation and talk to anyone, a very much liked and popular member of our club. He would host stock judging evenings, herd visits and club meetings at his Keythorpe Lakes Farm in Tugby, Leicestershire.

During the 1990s he attained the accolade of the highest yielding herd in the country and went onto win the NMR Gold Cup twice in 1996 and 1997. At the heart of his Lyons herd was Highpoint Chief Mary EX96 5E who won 17 first prizes at the Royal Show and gave 176 tonnes of milk in her seventeen and a half years.
Peter was President of our club for at least ten years and also both Chairman and President of Holstein UK and Ireland. Our condolences go out to his family and friends.
