Edition 2 - 2023 - Staffordshire

Entering into the Summer months is seeing the rewards for all the planning done during the winter months.

The HYB members are all keen to meet up again and a Show Calf preparation class is planned for the Easter Break, to encourage members to take part in local shows or help senior members at The Staffordshire County Show.

A joint stock judging event has been organised with Staffordshire Club inviting Shropshire and Western Clubs to join them on Friday 9th June, by kind permission of Mark Whitehurst, our youngest breeder. Mark and Lauren are looking forward to showcasing their Folemill Herd. The evening is at Hawksmoor, Adderley, Market Drayton, Shropshire TF9 3TJ.

Following on from the Open Stock judging a Linear training evening by kind permission of John Lomax (Chorlton) and a second stock judging evening to be confirmed.

The Summer herds planning is underway and with more members showing an interest in entering to make the competition even tougher with so many good herds entering. A social event is being organised for the presentation of the awards for all the members.

The winter herds event in January saw the club host Blaise Tomlinson (Sandyford) from The East Midlands Club. The club was kindly offered sponsorship by 2 businesses, Independent Feeding Solutions and E.J. Holdcroft & Sons which was really appreciated. Unfortunately, Blaise could not join our presentation meal that week, but a presentation was made in appreciation of his time to the Club.

The full results are detailed together with some photos of one of our Sponsors, Stephanie presenting the prizes from Independent Feeding Solutions.

Congratulations to Andrew and Debbie Mackellar (Drointon), the overall Champions.

Following on from our presentation meal at Christmas, Peter Cotton was awarded the Holstein Club Award and well deserved for all his support and hard work for the Senior Club and the HYB.

Three Club members had the pleasure of hosting 22 Agricultural Students from The Aeres Hogeschool, Dronten, Netherlands in February. The students were over for few days to look at Holstein cows and various breeding programmes. A picture of the students at Peter Cotton, Chasmar Holsteins. The students also visited Matthew Weaver’s, Astonpool Holsteins and Richard Robinson’s Phildor Holsteins. A lovely group of young people furthering their knowledge of the Dairy Industry.

It is with great sadness that the club received the news of Connie Robotham passing In March, after a short illness. Connie, her husband John and son, Ian of the Deansgate herd, have always been very active and supportive members of the Club. Just a few words from fellow members: -
“A lovely lady and a Stalwart member of the club”
“Connie was very instrumental looking after the judges and stewards at Stafford show”
“Such a wonderful and kind lady, missed by many”
The Club has Connie and her family in their thoughts.
