Breed Development Assistant

NBDC (National Bovine Data Centre) is part of the Holstein UK Group and they are looking for a Breed Development Assistant with a keen interest in both supporting and progressing the dairy industry. Breed Development, part of NBDC, progresses the breed through dairy research and the development of data-driven products and services.

Reponsibilities include:
- Master Breeder calculation;
- Classification data analysis;
- Liaising with industry contacts to maintain and update NBDC AI bull availability system
- Genomic results coordination – dealing with parentage conflicts and testing

- Keen interest in dairy industry research and development;
- Well organised and efficient;
- A first class communicator;
- Ability to work well alone and as part of a team;
- Have a thorough and conscientious approach to handling data;
- Diligent working style

- Educated to degree level;
- Good MS Office skills, particularly with Excel;
- Dairy industry knowledge/experience
- Evidence of data analysis experience (e.g. University Thesis)
- MS SQL and or MS Access (desirable, but not essential)

Field Development support required in Northern Ireland

Holstein UK is looking for a self-employed contractor to:
- Provide services to existing members;
- Follow up on new enquiries;
- Proactively search for new membership;
- Maintain the integrity of the herdbook through random checks;
- Promotion of society’s products and services;
- Follow-up visits once package has been purchased.

The role would require an individual with the following attributes:
- Keen interest in dairy industry research and development;
- Well organised and efficient;
- Excellent IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel;
- Good communication skills;
- Have a thorough and conscientious approach to handling data;
- Willing to get involved with a wide range of projects.

The Cattle Information Service - Milk Recorders (Various Areas)

The work involves attending afternoon and morning milkings to take milk samples, record yields and other relevant information, the data is then entered into a simple computer program.
